Ideal Palace of the Cheval Factor
In April 1879, Ferdinand Cheval, a rural postman, stumbled on a stone so strange that it awoke a dream. For 33 years, he built a Palace alone in his garden, inspired by nature, postcards and illustrated magazines.

Independent of any artistic movement, built without any architectural rules, the ideal Palace was admired by the surrealists, was recognized as a work of raw art. It was classified in 1969 Historical Monument by André Malraux, the then Minister of the Culture, under the title of the naive art.
